 GLENDALE HIKING CLUB NEWSLETTER

May 24/2017 Newsletter

Hello Glendale Hikers,

Just wanted to touch base with everyone concerning what will be happening during the summer and future events.

Thursday and Sunday hikes will be starting at 6:30 AM beginning on June 1st. Marie will be doing hikes at Thunderbird and various leaders will be leading hikes at the North Mountain Visitor Center. Thanks to Billie, Mike, Sue, and Marie for helping out with the Sunday hikes. There is still one Sunday, July 23rd, that is need of a leader. E-mail me if you are able to lead a Sundayhike on this date.

If anyone would like to lead a Saturday hike during the summer, e-mail me and I will send it out to the club. Typically during the summer there are very few Saturday hikes due to heat and monsoon storms, but we can possibly get in a hike in if they are planned for up north and weather is checked. Just check out e-mails for possible Saturday hikes.

Bev W. will be keeping track of next year’s alternate Thursday hikes and sending out reminders during that hiking season. Here are some dates that still need leaders – Oct. 12th, Jan. 18th, April 12th, and May 10th. Thanks Bev!

The Fall Picnic is planned for November 5th at Thunderbird Park. Our ramada is reserved for 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We will have a hike at 8:00 AM and a breakfast brunch starting at 10:00 AM. Members should bring a breakfast dish to share. More information will be forth coming at a later date. Thanks Beth for helping with our picnic.

The Christmas Party is scheduled for December 15th. Thank you Regina!

A fall hiking trip is in the planning stage! It will be to Silver City, New Mexico probably around the 1st week of October. Not only will there be hikes in the Gila National Forest area, but there are other points of interest such as the Western New Mexico University Museum, Silver City Visitor Center, City of Rocks, Silver City Museum, La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery, and the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. I am sending off for more information, maps etc, and will let everyone know about what is definitely planned sometime at the end of July or beginning of August.

Have a nice summer,

Gail Harris
